Simple Sunday- Hope

“Hope will never be silent.”-Harvey Milk

“The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

“We can no longer save the world by playing by the rules.”-Greta Thunburg

“Strange as it may seem, I still hope for the best, even though the best, like an interesting piece of mail, so rarely arrives, and even when it does it can be lost so easily.”
― Lemony Snicket, The Beatrice Letters

“So that’s the dissenter’s hope: that they are writing not for today but for tomorrow.”-Ruth Bader Ginsburg

“The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.”
― Barack Obama

“You cannot hope to build a better world without improving the individuals. To that end, each of us must work for his own improvement and, at the same time, share a general responsibility for all humanity, our particular duty being to aid those to whom we think we can be most useful.”-Marie Curie

Simple Sunday- Rainy days

“You pray for rain, you gotta deal with the mud too. That’s a part of it.”-Denzel Washington

“It always rains on tents. Rainstorms will travel thousands of miles, against prevailing winds for the opportunity to rain on a tent.”-Dave Barry

“Nothing’s more comforting than the sound of rain when you’re not in it.”
― Erika Krouse, Tell Me Everything: The Story of a Private Investigation

“…I don’t just wish you rain, Beloved – I wish you the beauty of storms…”― John Geddes, A Familiar Rain

“It is only in sorrow bad weather masters us; in joy we face the storm and defy it.”-Amelia Barr

“All morning it has been raining.
In the language of the garden, this is happiness.”― Mary Oliver

Simple Sunday- Writing

“A writer of fiction lives in fear. Each new day demands new ideas and he can never be sure whether he is going to come up with them or not.”-Roald’ Dahl

“Write what should not be forgotten.”- Isabel Allende

“I write to understand as much as to be understood.”
― Elie Wiesel

“As far as I’m concerned, the entire reason for becoming a writer is not having to get up in the morning.”-Neil Gaiman

Simple Sunday- Humor

“I have never listened to anyone who criticized my taste in space travel, sideshows or gorillas. When this occurs, I pack up my dinosaurs and leave the room.”― Ray Bradbury, Zen in the Art of Writing

“I do not want people to be very agreeable, as it saves me the trouble of liking them a great deal.” —Jane Austen

“No passion in the world is equal to the passion to alter someone else’s draft.”- H. G. Wells

“I’ll be more enthusiastic about encouraging thinking outside the box when there’s evidence of any thinking going on inside it.”-Terry Pratchett

“Fate is like a strange, unpopular restaurant filled with odd little waiters who bring you things you never asked for and don’t always like.”― Lemony Snicket

Simple Sunday- Nature

“Whether people need nature or not, it was clear that nature needed people. But perhaps nature needs us like a hostage needs her captors: nature needs us not to annihilate her, not to run her over, not to cover her with cement, not to chop her down. We can hardly admire ourselves, then, when we stop to accommodate nature’s needs: we are dubious heroes who create peril and then save it’s victims, we who rescue the animals and the trees from ourselves.”- Amy Leach, Things That Are

“Nature is ever at work building and pulling down, creating and destroying, keeping everything whirling and flowing, allowing no rest but in rhythmical motion, chasing everything in endless song out of one beautiful form into another.”-John Muir

“I’m continually inspired by nature, and the rainbow is one of nature’s greatest optical phenomenon. The sighting of a rainbow never fails to bring a smile to people’s faces. They signify optimism and positivity: with them comes the sunshine after the rain.”-Matthew Williamson

“Nature promotes mutualism. The flower nourishes the bee. The river waters quench the thirst of all living beings. And trees provide a welcoming home to so many birds and animals. There is a rhythm to this togetherness.”-Ram Nath Kovind

“Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles of nature, is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace.”-May Sarton

Simple Sunday- Asian and Asian-Pacific Heritage Month

“Luck is in every part of China. Many Chinese stores and restaurants have the word ‘luck’ in their names. The idea is that, just by using the word ‘luck’ in names of things, you can attract more of it. I think that’s true in my life as well. You attract luck because you go after it.”-Amy Tan

“I knew then that we were like two pieces of cloth, sewn together for life. Our stitches couldn’t be undone. I wouldn’t let them.”
― Elizabeth Lim, Spin the Dawn– I loved this book

“I’d be so fascinated to talk to a psychologist or sociologist about the deep psychological impact of seeing oneself represented. I don’t think we’ve really touched the surface of what it does to the psyche of a people if the only image of you out there is negative. Or if it’s never out there.”-Sandra Oh

“Cities have souls, you know. They are alive and sometimes they die. They grow old either gracefully or shamefully. They shrink and they expand. They grieve and celebrate.” -The Wild Ones”
― Nafiza Azad, The Wild Ones-Liked this book a lot.

“There isn’t anything wrong with knowing that something will expire. It focuses you: treasure the time you have together.”
― Roselle Lim, Vanessa Yu’s Magical Paris Tea Shop– I loved this book

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday- Creature Conservatory

We went to visit the Creature Conservancy in April and it was really cool! Smaller, but well kept and the animals were very well taken care of. We’ll definitely go back in the summer again when there are more animals able to be outside. One of the coolest things was seeing the sloths just hanging out on the ceiling in their nap crates or moving along the wood structure that was up there.

These were baby tortoises!
This is an albino alligator. They also had an all black one, but he was hiding in the water being spooky!
“What are you looking at?!”
His name is Sven and he was shedding his antlers at the time. They had his old ones hanging up.
Alligator snapping turtle, I think. He looks like an old mossy log!
This bird was wearing a sweater. Apparently it has some health issues.
