(Almost) Wordless Wednesday- Harvard Museum of Scientific Instruments

Here’s the website for the museum. https://chsi.harvard.edu/

They had a small part of their collection in the museum itself and a larger part in the the online catalog, so I would recommend taking yourself on a virtual tour to see more.

Simple Sundays

Simple Sunday- Science!

“Science, my lad, is made up of mistakes, but they are mistakes which it is useful to make, because they lead little by little to the truth.”-Jules Verne

“This job is a great scientific adventure. But it’s also a great human adventure. Mankind has made giant steps forward. However, what we know is really very, very little compared to what we still have to know.” — Higgs Boson physicistย Fabiola Gianotti

โ€œThe fact that we live at the bottom of a deep gravity well, on the surface of a gas covered planet going around a nuclear fireball 90 million miles away and think this to be normal is obviously some indication of how skewed our perspective tends to be.โ€โ€•ย Douglas Adams,ย The Salmon of Doubt: Hitchhiking the Galaxy One Last Time

โ€œThe most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds the most discoveries, is not “Eureka!” (I found it!) but ‘That’s funny…โ€โ€•ย Isaac Asimov

โ€œScience makes people reach selflessly for truth and objectivity; it teaches people to accept reality, with wonder and admiration, not to mention the deep awe and joy that the natural order of things brings to the true scientist.โ€ย –Lise Meitner

Simple Sundays

Simple Sunday- Science

“Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former.”-Albert Einstein

“Science, my lad, is made up of mistakes, but they are mistakes which it is useful to make, because they lead little by little to the truth.”-Jules Verne

‘We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology.”-Carl Sagan

“Seeing a full display of humanity involved in space is a game-changer for everyone. We’ve all looked at the stars; we’ve all imagined what was going on. Not everyone wants to go, but everyone wants to know what it’s like.”-Mae Jemison

“We should not allow it to be believed that all scientific progress can be reduced to mechanisms, machines, gearings, even though such machinery also has its beauty. Neither do I believe that the spirit of adventure runs any risk of disappearing in our world.”-Marie Curie

“The scientific method is about trying to remove our own bias and subjectivity, and be as objective as possible. But then you can put it back into context and you’re allowed to be emotional and human about the way you engage with it.”-Alice Roberts
